When you’re stuck and trying to learn a new concept, I always have a book recommendation or two to share with you. (Books haven’t always had as big of a role in my life, but I’m making up for lost time!) They’re great tools for growth and to help synthesize concepts you’re learning through coaching or other self-exploration practices.
One of the biggest concepts I’ve been sharing is all about helping people live lives they LOVE. I’m talking big, brave, beautiful, better-than-the-first-act kinds of lives. And of course, I have a book to help with that!
With all that each of us have going on in our lives, it can be easy to lose sight of what is really important to us. There are always urgent, obligatory activities and they can easily consume each and every day if we let them.
If we aren’t paying attention, those days become years, and those years start passing by all too fast. I’m sure you agree!
I’m loath to admit that I fell into that pattern. Several years ago as I was in the process of thinking about my year ahead, I wasn’t overly optimistic about what I was seeing for myself.
But a book by Debbie Ford made me smile as I read the title: The Best Year of Your Life.
“Wow,” I thought. “Do you think it would be possible for this next year to actually be the BEST year of my life?”
So I bought the book and dove right in. I loved the ideas and messages Debbie shared, and before you know it, each of my friends had a copy in their hands at Christmas that year. I’ve read this book almost every year since, some years taking my intentions for the following year more seriously than others.
Since becoming a coach, I’ve gained a much greater understanding of what is really possible for someone who is fully committed to living the “best year” of their lives. In fact, I wholeheartedly believe that the world needs you to show up (fully committed) and share your talents. The world NEEDS what you have to give.
And this book will absolutely help you navigate how to have the best year of your life — each and every year of your life!
Here’s a brief overview of the book, and why I consider this book as one of my Robin’s Reads recommendations.
You’re tired of making resolutions each year, only to abandon them by February. You’re ready to understand how to create a powerful intent and “Expose the Fantasy” in order to connect with your true desires.
You have taken the time to put plans in place for achieving what you want, only to find your plans don’t work. You’re ready to learn how to start from a “clean slate” and how to avoid your “No-Cookie Zones.”
You’re good doing exactly what you said you would do, and accomplishing your goals, but it hasn’t made you any happier. You’re ready to learn how you can identify your “Integrity Anchors” and how to create “unforgettable days” in your life.
Debbie Ford created an easy-to-read book that makes many key coaching concepts simple and understandable to everyone. She even includes exercises at the end of each chapter to help you implement her suggestions. (If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, you will definitely love this book!)
Whether or not you will take the time for the exercises she provides, I believe everyone who is looking to live a life they love will greatly benefit from the insights Debbie shares to improve how you prepare for, plan for, and implement changes in your life. Then…get ready because you’re about to have your Best. Year. Ever!
